The Azores, Portugal

The Azores Archipelago consists of nine main islands about 600 km west of
mainland Portugal.  The islands are at about 39º North latitude, thus about the
same latitude as California just north of San Francisco.  

Most or all of the Phillips family immigrants were from from tiny Flores
Island.  Matteo Vierra was from São Jorge Island.
